What we do

What we do

We will assist in any way we can if it is legal, physically possible and does not conflict with our values.

What we can do

The Good Neighbour Scheme will consider almost anything that you could conceivably ask a friend or neighbour to do. As long as it is legal and does not compromise our principles.

Help with shopping or groceries

Simple DIY tasks and home maintenance

Simple Garden Maintenance – limited to a tidy up and grass cut to get control of a wild space.

Help with transport to the Doctor or hospital appointments on a wait and return basis (small fee applicable)

Help walking your dog or other pet issues if you are incapacitated or unwell

Household tasks that you cannot do yourself because of illness or temporary absence of carers etc.

Befriending, our word for a chat and a coffee if you feel you need it.

Signposting to other agencies and organisations for more complex needs

‘Home from Hospital’ services. Not medical care but a lift from the hospital and a ‘pint of milk and loaf of bread’ when you get home. And a welfare check periodically until you can cope again

Advice on technical issues, computers, tablets and phones. Help you to set up video calling and similar.

Advice on local services and tradespeople
What we cannot do
Anything that counts as urgent. We cannot react in the same way the main services do. If you need a lift to hospital now then either patient transport, a taxi, or ambulance are your options.

Take work away from tradespeople. Taxi drivers need to earn a living too as do gardeners and builders etc. A blocked sink is one thing a blocked sewer is another.

Medical treatment or personal care though we do have suggestions and people who we can direct you to.

Examples of where we have helped

Helping to set up local shopping deliveries or on line deliveries

Accompanying people for appointments for benefit interviews etc

Taking people to Citizens advice centres

Hospital, Physio and x-ray appointments

Collecting and dropping off prescriptions
